Family Art Projects

Family Tree

Materials: Butcher paper roll, safety scissors, glue sticks, green paper leaves, bingo paint markers, tape, crayons, finger-paints, paint and sponge brushes

Activity
•Adults may trace the outline of their child’s body on the paper and use their form as the tree trunk, using extended arms as branches.
•May also draw tree on paper with your family by placing paper on table, floor or wall.
•Glue leaves with the names of family members on the branches as you use art materials to add color, form and design elements to family tree.
•Family’s handprints made with finger-paint or ink pads can be additional foliage for the tree branches.
•Use crayons, paint and markers to add important people, events or designs on family
tree.
•Copies of photos can be cut and glued along the branches.
•Craft pieces can also be glued to the tree to create texture and interest.

A Different Family Tree

Materials: Washable Stamp Pads, wipes, family tree template, glue sticks or tape, pre-cut brown paper trunk, crayons or markers

Activity: Create a family tree keepsake with a unique family imprint.
•Invite adults to create a foliage handprint in suggested area using a stamp pad. Select another color for child’s handprint and place over adult’s handprint. These handprints will form colorful tree boughs.
•The trunk can be colored with crayon in space below or use pre-cut paper trunks adhered with glue sticks or tape.
•Use markers and crayons to write in names of family members on your tree.

Family Footprints

Materials: Colored paper, card stock, finger paints, glitter, glue sticks, jumbo washable stamp pads in different colors, messy trays, markers, tarp, wipes, hand sanitizer, water bottles, paper towels

Activity
•Invite families to work together to finger paint their sheet of card stock with different color finger paint. Dust wet paint with glitter. Clean hands thoroughly.
•Set cardstock aside to dry and invite class to pick a color of construction paper. •??Give each family a messy try to place their paper.
•Adults can model using hand sanitizer on foot before pressing foot on stamp pad and
placing print on colored paper.
•After each family member has made a footprint, bring out cardstock painting.
•Invite families to arrange and glue footprints on cardstock.
•Make markers available to write each persons name below their footprint.

Family Flag

Materials: Markers, crayons, jumbo stamp pads, art stamps, bingo bottles, colored paper, glue, creamy crayons or silky sticks, colored pencils, tape, markers

Activity
•Give each family a canvas flag.
•Make listed materials available to families.
•Distribute art stamps, crayons, markers, and bingo bottles or bio paint.
•Encourage families to personalize their flags.
•Use colored paper and invite families to write a letter, last name or special symbol that may be included on your family flag. Make glue available to adhere paper. You may enhance by adding other collage materials.
•Families can make patterned borders around the edge of the flag using their thumbprints and different color stamp pad ink.
•Adults can write the name of different family members on the flag.
•You may further embellish the flags by adding colored ribbons to the dowels.
